Onion Pohe | Kanda Pohe

Updated: Apr 15

A must have maharashtrian breakfast!

You won't find any house in maharashtra that does not have kanda pohe for breakfast. Quick and easy to make, this breakfast/snack is delicious and healthy too.

Scraped coconut, coriander/cilantro and freshly squeezed lemon juice enhances its flavour even further.

“Should be eaten hot, straight out of the pan”

This onion pohe should be served immediately after cooking as it starts turning dry as it gets cold and doesn't taste as good if eaten cold or if reheated.

As this dish is made out of flattened rice, it is quite filling and will keep you going till lunch break. Onion pohe can be served as a snack too anytime during the day for kids or for any surprise visitors you may have at your home as it's ready in no time.

In some parts of Maharashtra (not all) peanuts are added to this dish while stir frying. Peanuts add a crunch to the soft texture of this dish. But everyone in my family prefers this dish without peanuts.

Also, some like to add farsan or Bombay Mix on the top before serving this dish. So if you want a bit of crunch, you can add this.
