Learn how to make Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Walnuts in a quick video with step-by-step instructions below.

Quick, easy to follow video of how to make Banana Bread:

Get everything ready first

Before starting the process of making Banana Cake, prepare and keep everything ready.

You will first need to remove butter, eggs, yogurt / curd / dahi, vanilla extract from refrigerator and bring them to room temperature.

Smear melted unsalted butter all over on the inside of the loaf pan (around 23x11x6 cm) so that Chocolate Walnut Banana Bread comes out easily after baking. If you have parchment paper, you can use that to line the loaf pan; it will be even easier to remove this Homemade Banana Bread from the loaf tin.

Measure all the ingredients and keep them ready. While measuring plain flour / maida be extra careful. Plain flour / maida has a tendency to settle down and get packed tightly when left for long. It is very easy to take more flour / maida then required in this Chocolate Chip Walnut Banana Bread recipe, when it has settled down and compacted. So, it’s always best to weigh the flour, you will need 250 grams of plain flour / maida, but if you don’t have a weighing scale and want to use cup measurements, first fluff the plain flour / maida up with a spoon or a whisk and then sprinkle it in measuring cup using a spoon so that you get right amount of plain flour / maida.

Sieve all dry ingredients before combining them with the wet ingredients in this easy Banana Bread recipe. This process might seem unnecessary, but it does have a few reasons. Sifting breaks up the lumps, aerates the ingredients, combines all the dry ingredients evenly and makes it easier to mix them with the wet ingredients. And it does make your Chocolate Chip Banana Bread lighter, so do not miss this step.

Also mash up overripe bananas with a fork and keep them ready.

Finally, don’t forget to preheat oven to 170°C / 340°F so that it is at the right temperature and ready to bake your Banana Nut Bread after all the ingredients are whisked and mixed together.

Homemade Banana Bread - Best use of Overripe Bananas

No one wants to eat overripe bananas as they are so mushy and don’t really taste good. Well, you can use them in other banana recipes, or add them to smoothies or making pancakes out of them, but their best use will be in making a moist Banana Bread, as it so incredibly yum!

For making this Banana Loaf recipe, riper the bananas better the taste and flavour of Banana Bread!

Do not use underripe or just ripe bananas as they will surely reduce the flavour or might even spoil the flavour and texture of bread/cake.

If you have ripe bananas, but don’t want to wait till they turn overripe, bake them in oven at 180°C / 355°F for 10 mins or until their skin turns black and shiny. Then wait till they cool down before mashing them up.

Right temperature and right amount of mixing is the key to a Perfect Banana Bread

When making this simple Banana Bread, right temperature and right amount of mixing are two important things you need to take care of.

Always use Banana Bread ingredients like butter, eggs, yogurt / curd / dahi, vanilla extract at room temperature. Cold refrigerated ingredients will definitely affect how Chocolate Banana Bread turns out in the end. This Banana Walnut Bread might not get baked properly, it might rise in the centre and have cracks, it might need unusually longer baking time or it might remain raw in centre and burn from sides if cold ingredients are used. A useful tip to know if butter has reached room temperature is, when you press the butter with a finger, it should leave a mark.

Also, always preheat the oven. It is so important that oven is at the right temperature when Chocolate Banana Cake batter enters the oven. Not preheating will result in uneven baking and Banana Walnut Cake won’t be as soft and moist.

The next important thing to remember is not to overmix the batter or else Chocolate Walnut Banana Bread won’t be as soft and tender. After you add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, don’t use an electric hand mixer to mix, use a spatula instead and gently fold the Banana Bread ingredients in till they are just combined.

Letting Banana Bread Cool Down

Once this moist Banana Bread is baked and out of the oven, let it cool down. Do not remove it from the loaf pan immediately as the chocolate chips that you have used to decorate Banana Cake from top will have melted and will be soft. If you try removing from loaf pan, chocolate might spread all over and spoil the appearance of Banana Walnut Bread. Let chocolate chips first cool down and solidify, then remove Homemade Banana Bread from loaf pan and let it cool down completely on a cooling rack, so that it doesn’t have a soggy bottom.

It's important to wait till Chocolate Chip Banana Bread with Walnuts has cooled down completely before slicing, as it will be crumbly and you won’t be able to make proper slices if you try to cut it while it’s still hot / warm.

This scrumptious Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Walnuts is ready to serve after it has cooled down. Walnuts add a bit of crunch and use of Chocolate Chips makes this simple Banana Bread slightly more decadent. Enjoy on its own as a dessert or as a snack with a cup of hot tea! You can store the leftover Chocolate Walnut Banana Bread in an air tight container on counter top for up to 3-4 days.
